Daycare quick facts

Some quick facts about the Montrose Community Daycare.

  • The Daycare is owned and operated by the City of Montrose.
  • It is located on the Montrose Public School campus and has a partnership with the school to use facilities for preschool and gym. (The school owns the land and leases it to the City for $1.)
  • The Daycare is a Group Family Daycare licensed by the State of South Dakota. It can accommodate a maximum of 20 children at a time.
  • The Daycare currently provides preschool to 13 children ages 3-5. Preschool is open to any child, regardless of enrollment at the daycare (there are currently 6 students who are not enrolled at the daycare too). Montrose Public School provides space for preschool classes free of charge.
  • The City Council appoints five citizen-members to a “Daycare Advisory Committee.” These members provide input and ideas to the Daycare Director and the City Council.

Families + Kids

  • The Daycare has served 24 families in the past 12 months.
  • There are currently 29 children enrolled full or part-time at the Daycare.


  • The MC Daycare currently (as of Oct. 10, 2006) employs 8 full and part-time employees.
  • This equates to 4 “Full Time Equivalent” employees (“FTEs”)


  • For the month of September, 2006, MC Daycare had a net profit of $1041.
  • As of September 30, 2006, MC Daycare has a net cost of $618 to the City of Montrose for this year-to-date.
  • That means the daycare has cost the City of Montrose an average of $69 per month to operate this year.
  • That comes to a total average cost of $1.75 per year for each resident in Montrose (latest estimated population was 473).
  • Last year, (according to City of Montrose audited records) the daycare cost the City a net of $1716 to operate, or $143 per month, to operate full time.
